In the continuously developing modern technological and information society, the need for mathematics that is relevant to the development of such society is rapidly increasing. In the Department of Applied Mathematics, the objective is to produce researchers, engineers, teaching staff and civil servants who can understand applied mathematics, based on the philosophy that mathematical and logical thinking capacity is necessary in order to keep up with changes in technology.

  • Mathematical Data Science

    In this area, we look into basic methods for analyzing and predicting uncertain phenomena. By learning probability and statistics, you will acquire the theoretical basis for methods which are indispensable for the extraction and analysis of essential information from a large data volume.

  • Mathematical Modeling

    This area of research makes use of mathematical modeling and computer simulation to understand and predict complicated phenomena occurring in the natural sciences, social sciences and elsewhere. It is a comprehensive discipline which encompasses formulation and analysis, computational algorithm design and development, and everything from basic theory to practical application and implementation.
