The Department of Architecture fosters human resources who can resolve issues that occur on a global scale while respecting historical cultures unique to local regions, possessing abundant education and deep, specialized knowledge and techniques as well as the conceptual power to bring dreams to people.

Research Groups & Research Areas

  • Planning / Design

We analyze and list up architectural and environmental needs, draw up a basic concept for the kind of architecture to be built, compile a basic plan, and use specialist knowledge and technology of architecture to realize this architecture. Further, we verify the value of architectural design through surveys and analysis of the history and preservation of architecture.

  • Structures

Buildings are subject to loads from people, objects and the like, and to the forces of earthquakes or wind, and architecture must stand up to these forces while staying safe. In the field of architectural structures, we use dynamics and technology to create, in a reasonable and economic manner, the frame structures including pillars, beams, and walls, allowing a building to safely stand up to all forces it is subjected to.

  • Environment

We look into how we can create comfortable spaces by planning and designing the states and behaviors of heat, light, sound, air and the like corresponding to the purpose of the building in question, for example, housing, an office, or a theater. Also as it requires consideration of physiology, psychology and the global environment, this topic is quite deep.

  • Materials and Disaster Prevention

Buildings are made of various materials including structural materials and interior materials. This area covers the materials field in which we conduct research on the strength and safety of materials, and the disaster prevention field, which looks into measures to prevent damage caused by building fires.
