The Department of Mathematics pursues the philosophy of "carrying out education and research on mathematics that serves as the foundation for various sciences, as well as development of science and society."Education in this department is carried out based on the basic stance that "specialized education that emphasizes dialogues" is important. This enables us to produce graduates who are successful in many different fields of profession in an advanced society, including secondary education. Mathematical research is implemented over a broad scope, and international research exchanges are also actively carried out."

  • Analysis

    It is possible to consider the limits of a sequence of numbers or a sequence of functions. Analysis is a field in which we observe and research changing quantities by use of these limits.

  • Geometry

    Broadly speaking, geometry is related to how shapes are perceived. However, geometry does not necessarily deal with visible objects only but also covers views and concepts in a wider sense.

  • Algebra

    Algebra systematically examines structures such as real numbers, complex numbers, and vectors while focusing on the nature of operations such as addition and multiplication. Why does the multiplication of a negative number by a negative number result in a positive number? Algebra finds the answers to questions we have since our days at elementary school.

  • Applied mathematics

    It is applied mathematics that finds an answer by using mathematics for various problems in the modern society. I make use of being the course in mathematics of the department of science and engineering and study it other than science and technology studies in cooperation with the field.
