In addition to thorough education on basic subjects such as biology, chemistry and physics, the Department of Medicinal and Life Sciences formulates basic grounds for medicinal and life sciences complemented by information science, such as IT and statistics/stochastics. Afterwards, students take subjects that are directly linked to the development of drugs, such as genome science, synthetic chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, etc. Through these educational and research activities, the goal of the department is to cultivate pharmaceutical researchers (medicinal personnel) who, with advanced, specialized knowledge and techniques based on the foundation of life science, can stand on unwavering life ethics to contribute to maintaining the health of human beings and conquering disease. Research in this department is diverse, and opportunities for interdisciplinary subjects are provided.
Research Groups & Research Areas
-
Drug Discovery Science
The genes and proteins involved in diseases have been uncovered. Today, the goal of drug discovery research is to create new drugs also from theoretical approaches utilizing genome information and computer science in addition to the conventional techniques of synthetic chemistry.

Life Pharmacy
We study life from a multifaceted approach at the genetic level, the molecular level, the cellular level, and the organism level, to clarify the mechanisms by which cancer, Alzheimer's Disease, diabetes, immune disorders, infectious diseases and the like are caused, and to contribute to the development of even better drugs.
